Safety problems play role in lost accreditation for NC hospital
Published August 2008 A state psychiatric hospital in North Carolina has lost its Joint Commission accreditation in part because of safety-related citations. Broughton Hospital in Morgantown, NC, lost an appeal of its preliminary denial of accreditation last week, according to information posted on the facility’s Web site. The hospital had been in preliminary denial since December 2007, when surveyors toured the facility. Safety-related requirements for improvement issued by surveyors during that visit, as noted by The Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO), included the following:
The hospital has since corrected the problems and may ask The Joint Commission to again review the case, the Charlotte (NC) Observer reported.
